From the Divan of Hafez · 8 couplets
...
The jewel of the treasury of secrets is the same as it was —
the box of love bears that same seal and sign as it was.
Lovers are the company of the people of trust —
therefore the jewel-raining eye is the same as it was.
Ask the breeze — for all night until dawn,
the scent of your tresses was the same companion of our soul as it was.
There is no seeker of ruby and pearl — otherwise the sun
is still at the work of mine and quarry as it was.
Visit the one slain by your glance —
for that poor one is still gazing with that same longing as it was.
The color of our heart's blood that you keep hidden
is still as visible on your ruby lip as it was.
I said your Hindu tress would not waylay again —
years have passed, and it is still the same in manner as it was.
Hafez, reveal the tale of the eye's blood-water —
for at this spring, the same flowing water runs as it was.
