The Oracle Speaks

...

If you drink wine, sprinkle a sip upon the earth —

from that sin whose profit reaches another, what fear?

Go — whatever you have, spend it — do not begrudge —

for without hesitation, time strikes the sword of death.

By the dust of your foot, O my pampered cypress —

on the Day of Reckoning, do not withdraw your foot from my head in the dust.

Whether hellish or heavenly, whether human or fairy —

in the creed of all, withholding on the spiritual path is heresy.

The celestial engineer has sealed the path of this six-sided monastery

so that there is no way beneath the vault of the grave.

The deception of the daughter of the vine strikes strangely at reason's road —

may the canopy of the vine never be ruined until Judgment Day.

On the road to the tavern, Hafez, you left the world well —

may the prayer of the people of heart be the companion of your pure soul.
