The Oracle Speaks

...

Where is the glad news of your union, that I may rise from the head of my life? —

I am the holy bird, and from the trap of the world I will rise.

By your devotion — if you call me your slave,

I will rise from the mastership of all existence.

O Lord, from the cloud of guidance send a rain

before I rise from the midst like a speck of dust.

Sit at the head of my grave with wine and a minstrel,

that at your scent I may rise dancing from the tomb.

Rise and show your stature, O idol of sweet movements —

that from the head of life and world I may rise, scattering my hands.

Though I am old — hold me tight in your embrace one night,

that at dawn I may rise young from your side.

On the day of my death, give me a moment's reprieve for a last look —

that like Hafez, I may rise from the head of life and world.
