From the Divan of Hafez · 8 couplets
...
O you whose moon-visaged face is the springtime of beauty —
your mole and down are the center of beauty and the orbit of beauty.
In your slumberous eyes, hidden is the spell of sorcery —
in your restless tresses, visible is the stillness of beauty.
No moon has shone like you from the tower of goodness —
no cypress has risen like your stature from the brook of beauty.
The age of heart-ravishing was made joyful by your grace —
the era of beauty was made auspicious by your delicacy.
From the trap of your tresses and the grain of your mole,
not one bird of the heart remains in the world uncaptured by beauty.
Always by the kindness of nature's nurse, from the midst of the soul,
she nurtures you with pride in the embrace of beauty.
The violet around your lip is fresh and moist because
it drinks the Water of Life from the brook of beauty.
Hafez has given up hope of seeing your equal —
there is no one in the realm of beauty but your face.
