Suddenly you have cast aside the veil — what do you mean?

Drunk, you have rushed out of the house — what do you mean?

Tresses in the hand of the breeze, ear obedient to the rival —

you have made peace with everyone in this manner — what do you mean?

You are the king of beauties and have become the object of beggars' gaze —

you have not recognized the worth of this station — what do you mean?

Was it not you who first gave me the tip of your tresses?

You have cast me down again — what do you mean?

Your speech spoke the riddle of the mouth and the waist spoke the secret —

and from the middle you have drawn a sword on us — what do you mean?

Everyone is occupied with a piece on the board of your love —

in the end, you have played crooked with everyone — what do you mean?

Hafez — since the beloved descended into your narrow heart,

you have not cleared the house of strangers — what do you mean?
