From the Divan of Hafez · 5 couplets
...
Do not part from me, for you are the light of my eye —
the peace of my soul and the companion of my frightened heart.
Lovers do not release your hem —
you have torn the garment of their patience.
May no harm come to you from the eye of your own fortune — since
in heart-ravishing, you have reached the ultimate of beauty.
Do not forbid me from love of her, O mufti of the age —
I excuse you, for you have not seen her.
That reproach the friend gave you, O Hafez —
perhaps you have stretched your foot beyond your blanket.
