Ghazal 96

From the Divan of Hafez · 5 couplets

The Oracle Speaks

...

Our pain has no remedy — help!

Our separation has no end — help!

They have taken faith and heart, and now aim for the soul —

help! From the cruelty of beauties — help!

For the price of a single kiss they ask a life —

these heart-stealers demand it — help!

These infidel-hearted ones have drunk our blood —

O Muslims, what is the remedy? Help!

Like Hafez, day and night, beside myself,

I have become burning and weeping — help!
