The Oracle Speaks

...

Last night the breeze of the morning wind brought me the news

that the days of hardship and grief are growing short.

Let us give our torn garments to the minstrels of the morning drink

at this glad tiding that the dawn wind has brought.

Come, come — for you are the houri of paradise whom the Guardian

has brought into this world for the heart of a humble one.

We are going to Shiraz with the favor of fortune —

what a fine companion fortune has brought alongside me!

Strive to mend our broken spirits, for this felt cap

has brought many a fracture upon the royal crown.

What cries rose from my heart to the harvest of the moon

when it brought to mind the cheek of that moon of the pavilion.

Hafez raised the banner of victory to the sky

because he took refuge at the threshold of the king of kings.
