From the Divan of Hafez · 6 couplets
...
It is dawn, O cupbearer — fill a cup with wine —
the turning of the sky has no delay; make haste.
Before this mortal world falls to ruin,
ruin us with the cup of rose-colored wine.
The sun of wine has risen from the east of the goblet —
if you seek the means of pleasure, abandon sleep.
On the day the sky makes jugs from our clay —
beware! Make the cup of our skull full of wine.
We are not people of piety and repentance and pretensions —
address us by the cup of pure wine.
The right work is wine-worship, Hafez —
rise and make a firm resolve for the right work.
