From the Divan of Hafez · 9 couplets
...
My heart, in longing for the face of Farokh,
is disordered like the hair of Farokh.
Besides the Hindu mole of his tresses, no one
has enjoyed the sight of Farokh.
Blessed is that dark one who is always
the confidant and companion of Farokh.
The free-standing cypress would tremble like a willow
if it saw the heart-seeking stature of Farokh.
Cupbearer, give crimson wine
in memory of the sorcerous narcissus eyes of Farokh.
My stature has bent double like a bow
from grief, perpetually like the brow of Farokh.
The scent of Tatar musk was put to shame
by the fragrance of the ambergris-scented tresses of Farokh.
If every heart inclines toward something,
my heart’s inclination is toward Farokh.
I am the servant of the aspiration of the one who, like Hafez,
is a slave and devotee of Farokh.
