From the Divan of Hafez · 8 couplets
...
In my prayer, the curve of your brow came to mind —
a state arose that made the prayer-niche cry out.
Do not expect patience, heart, or reason from me now,
for all the endurance you saw has gone with the wind.
The wine cleared, and the birds of the garden grew drunk —
the season of love has come, and work is set on firm foundation.
I smell the scent of improvement from the world's affairs —
the rose brought joy, and the morning breeze came glad.
O bride of art, do not complain of fortune —
adorn the bridal chamber of beauty, for the bridegroom has come.
All the heart-stealing plant-beauties have donned their jewels —
our beloved is the one who came with God-given beauty.
The trees that are attached are burdened —
how blessed the cypress that came free of grief's weight.
Minstrel, sing a fine ghazal from Hafez's words,
so I may say: the memory of the time of joy has come.
